Busy Bazaar

with 2 comments

I went down to the Bazaar at the Fremantle Arts Center first thing today and was surprised how many people had the same idea. I guess we all wanted to be there in the cooler morning hours, though it wasn’t cool at 9am either. Thankful for the shade of the old trees I wandered around marveling at the beautiful things on sale and enjoying the colourful and arty surrounding. I did end up getting nearly all of my presents, which made my visit not only pleasurable, but also convenient – I much rather do my shopping in the gardens of the Arts Centre than in crowded city malls.

When down there, you should also check out the galleries, where you can escape the heat and admire some amazing pieces. My favourite of the current artists on show is Andrew Nicholls. His detailed drawings are just stunning.

BeautifulWaste

Members of The Triffids, Perth band The Morning Night and poet John Kinsella will perform at Fremantle Arts Centre TONIGHT to celebrate the release of Vagabond Holes: David McComb & The Triffids and Beautiful Waste: Poetry by David McComb.

David McComb formed The Triffids in 1978 in Perth. Relocating first to the eastern states and then to London in 1984, the band divided its time between Australia and Europe for the remainder of the decade, touring and recording (among other works) the acclaimed albums; Born Sandy Devotional (1986), In the Pines (1986) and Calenture (1987). After The Triffids disbanded McComb continued writing and performing with bands — The Blackeyed Susans; The Red Ponies; costar — and released a solo album, Love of Will, in 1994. He died in 1999 at age 36.

Show some love and rug up for a free show. From 6.00 pm. RSVP to the launch at admin@fremantlepress.com.au

If you’re interested in music, especially NEW music, you must have heard of TURA, and if you haven’t, you should check them out now. As ‘out there’ some of their events may be, they are always a quality ear-opener. One of the venues for the 9th Totally Huge New Music Festival is the Fremantle Arts Centre, where you can experience the sound exhibition Come Hither Noise curated by Jasmin Stephens.

Eskimo Joe at the Freo Arts Centre

Love Freo wasn’t at the Eskimo Joe gig last night because we were too busy not being served cocktails (more on that later).  But we did bump into a load of people who had been to the gig.  If you were there we would love to hear from you, and we would love a couple of pics for the blog.  Please comment back or email us at info@lovefreo.com.
