WiFi Hotspots in Fremantle not so Hot
Love Freo loves Fremantle so we love to get out and about and have a better view over the top of our collective laptops than an office wall. We’ve tried quite a few WiFi spots around town and haven’t had the best results.
I was disappointed with the efforts of the Cappuccino Strip. The connection in The Mad Monk was unusable, I don’t know if it was the day I was there but it was so slow pages wouldn’t load, shame because it’s a good location. Then I went across the road to Croissant Express to see if it was any better and it was the same story so I ended up going back home to work from there.
Another day I used the WiFi in L2 Café over near the train station. The waiter had to restart the router and I was able to connect but that’s about it, once again very very slow. When I was in Angel’s Café on Essex Street there were several people in there with laptops happily surfing so I’m presuming the connection was good. The University of Notre Dame also has a coverage area that includes the surrounding neighbourhood.
I put the question out on Twitter about WiFi spots and BridgetKulak mentioned Ginos on the Cappuccino Strip has one although the range isn’t great. She also mentioned X-wray which I think is a cool place.

You Know You Want It
There was great joy when I suggested to the Melbourne Man to try out Fremantle’s new Chocolateria San Churro. Well, it’s not actually brand new – opened its doors last December – but we hadn’t been there before. But, oh man, we will be back! This place is a Mecca for chocolate lovers. There’s an extensive menu full of chocolaty sins like chocolate fondue, hot chocolates, chocolate cakes, … We went for the chocolate ice cream (choice of white, milk or dark) which comes with warm chocolate sauce by the side (also here you can choose between white, milk or dark) and it was rich, chocolaty and simply divine. ‘Better to have enjoyed and made a mess than to never have enjoyed at all’ – oh yeah! You’ll find Chocolateria San Churro behind Cino’s, 91 Market Street, Fremantle, Phone 9336 7557, fremantle@sanchurro.com.au

Sneaky Sound System at Metropolis
Sneaky Sound System played at Metropolis last night and I was there with bells on. They played a roaring show, Metropolis is a great small concert venue. The stage is raised enough so that wherever you are you get a good view and there is three bars so no wasting time waiting to get served. I was actually quite surprised that there was such a good light show. Their logo was at the back of the stage flashing rainbow colors for the whole performance. This made it kind of impossible to take a good photo, below is one of my better efforts.

The Mexican Kitchen
I’m being quite extravagant these days I seem to be eating out a lot but it was my self and The Brunette’s anniversary the other night so we decided to celebrate be eating lots of food. We had decided to go to Umi Umi on Essex Street but when we got there we changed our mind it didn’t seem that inviting, just a bit too brightly lit. So we walked around the corner and on to the Cappuccino Strip and went in to the Mexican Kitchen. Something I didn’t realise, from the outside it looks quite small but it’s got a section underground and out the back, it’s really quite a big place.

- Bad Photo of Nice Margaritas
It looks kind of cool with all the bright colours and lights but the menu is more tex-mex rather than Mexican, which is fine if that’s what you’re after. We sat outside and got margaritas and chips & salsa while we were waiting for our mains which arrived quickly. I had a mixed plate ($21) which had enchiladas and two types of tacos: a rolled one and an enormous filled one. The Brunette just had enchiladas ($21), initially he was a bit disappointed with it as it didn’t look that appetising just a big homogeneous blob on the plate. Both were served with refried beans and rice. It was a lot of food and we were stuffed.
I don’t think I would go there again that quickly not because the food was awful but because I probably had my whole daily fat allowance in one meal. I almost forgot to say the margaritas were quite good.
